Nepal Needs Our Help After 7.9 Magnitude Earthquake - Links to Help

The 7.9 magnitude earthquake that recently devastated Nepal has claimed at least 4,000 lives as I write this appeal. I hiked to Mount Everest Base Camp in September 2008 so I have a great affinity for the people there. Some friends have posted various ways to help and I wanted to share those links with you.

(1) Recommended by Gerri Unrien Kier and Stephen Forte.

Shelter Box USA.

Education Elevated.

Education Elevated Presents a Benefit Garden Concert with The John Byrne Band. There was a previously scheduled fundraiser on Saturday, June 13, in Lafayette, Colorado. It will benefit the hard hit Chyangba Village in Nepal.  Come on out and enjoy an amazing sunset, garden concert with these gifted musicians.

Equal parts Celtic and American Folk, Dublin-born singer/songwriter/guitarist John Byrne is one of the few musical artists today who manage to be traditional and modern at the same time. The John Byrne Band has built a large and loyal regional following from New York to Delaware and throughout the Northeast, with critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic.

ANZAC Day - Gallipoli Campaign beginning on April 25, 1915 - Lest We Forget

100 years have passed since Australian and New Zealand troops landed on Gallipoli in the Ottoman Empire (or Gelibolu in modern Turkey) on April 25, 1915. There were massive amounts of casualties on all sides. Australia and New Zealand observe April 25 as ANZAC Day.

Some links with more information include the following.

Australian Rules Football is one of my favorite sports. These are some links to remembrances in Australia and locally in NYC.

My paternal grandfather Stojan fought in World War I. I wanted to remember him and others who fought. My friend Aleksandra Rebic blogged this post on her Heroes of Serbia website

"Serbian Veterans and Descendants Association Australia" announces ANZAC DAY PARADE IN AUSTRALIA SATURDAY APRIL 25, 2015

"For the participants of the
Anzac Day Parade April 25, 2015,
don't forget
your black suit, black tie, subare, sajkace,
and your Chetnik pride!"

on Facebook.
"...Anzac Day is arguably Australia's most important national occasion. Every year, Australians commemorate the anniversary of that first campaign [Gallipoli April 1915], and at the same time commemorate all the military conflicts that followed..."
